Scheduling Instagram Automations: Go Live With Your Next Post
The worst time to set up an automation is the minute after a reel goes live, when comments are already arriving. Scheduling fixes this. You build the automation while the reel is still in your drafts, tell it to attach to your next post, and it goes Live the moment you publish. Viralyze offers three start options and a clear state for each automation so you always know what is running.
This article covers the three start modes, the states, and a weekly planning routine.
What are the three ways to start an automation?
Start now, start with your next post, or start on a date and time.
Start now is for a post that already exists: pick it, set keywords, go. Start with your next post is for content you have not published yet; the automation waits and binds to the next thing you post. Start on a date and time is for a planned moment, such as a Monday 9 AM announcement, and works with either an existing post or an any-post trigger.
How does "start with your next post" work in practice?
You create the automation without choosing a post. It shows as Scheduled. When you publish, the app attaches it to that new post and flips it to Live.
This is the mode for creators who batch content. On Sunday you can write five automations with keywords "DAY1" through "DAY5", each set to next post, and let them attach as the week's reels go out. Make sure the order you publish matches the order you created them.
What do the automation states mean?
There are four: Scheduled, Live, Paused and Needs attention.
- Scheduled: waiting for its start condition.
- Live: watching for keywords and sending DMs.
- Paused: stopped by you or by an auto-pause rule, and can be resumed.
- Needs attention: something requires a look, for example the Instagram connection needs to be refreshed.
Your automation list shows each one with its state, so a quick scan tells you what is running.
Can I schedule the end as well as the start?
Yes. Auto-pause works alongside scheduling. Set the automation to stop after a number of days, a number of DMs, or on a date. A weekend offer could start Friday 6 PM and pause Sunday 11:59 PM without you touching it.
Scheduling and auto-pause are both included in the Starter plan at ₹199 a month.
What is a good weekly planning routine?
1. Pick your content for the week and write one keyword per piece. 2. In the Viralyze app, create each automation with the keyword, the DM and the attachment (link, PDF, product or booking page). 3. Set each to start with your next post, in publishing order. 4. Run the live tester on each one to confirm the keyword matches. 5. Publish through the week and check the Live list each evening.
Here is a concrete example for a personal finance educator: Monday's reel on SIPs uses "SIP" and sends a calculator PDF; Wednesday's reel on tax uses "TAX" and sends a checklist; Friday's reel uses "CALL" and sends a booking page for a 20-minute consultation. All three are built on Sunday.
Does scheduling affect Instagram's reply rules?
No. Whatever the start mode, the automation only sends one private reply per comment within 7 days of that comment, as Meta's rules require. Scheduling changes when the automation begins to watch, not how it replies. Viralyze follows those rules automatically on the official API.
Frequently asked questions
**What happens if I post a story instead of a reel while a next-post automation is waiting?** Next-post binding applies to feed posts and reels. The automation keeps waiting until you publish one.
**Can I edit a Scheduled automation before it goes live?** Yes. Keywords, the DM and the schedule can all be changed while it is in the Scheduled state.
**Can I schedule an automation on a post that is already live?** Yes. Pick the existing post and choose a date and time; it stays Scheduled until then.
