Replying in the Commenter's Language: English, Hindi and Hinglish DMs

19 October 2026

Most Indian creator audiences are not one language. The same reel gets "price?" from one person, "price kya hai" from another and "दाम बताइए" from a third, and a DM in the wrong register reads as distant to all of them. Viralyze replies in the commenter's language, English, Hindi or Hinglish, so each person gets a message that sounds like the one they sent.

This article explains how that works, how to write for it, and where it changes your setup.

How does language-matched replying work?

The automation looks at the comment, identifies whether it is English, Hindi or Hinglish, and sends your DM in that register. You write the message once; the app produces the English, Hindi and Hinglish versions and picks the one that fits.

AI variations apply on top, so two Hinglish commenters do not receive identical text either.

Why does Hinglish matter so much?

Because it is how most people actually type. Romanised Hindi mixed with English words is the default register of Indian Instagram comments, and a reply in formal Hindi script or stiff English feels like a form letter.

A Hinglish DM for a mehndi artist might read: "Hi! Aapne BOOK comment kiya tha, yeh raha booking link: [booking]. Bridal ke liye slots Friday se open hain 🙂". The same message to an English commenter would say "Hi! You commented BOOK, here's the booking link. Bridal slots open from Friday." Same facts, different voice.

Do I need to write the DM in all three languages?

No. Write it in the language you are most comfortable in, keep it factual and short, and let the app handle the register. Review the previews in the live tester by typing one English, one Hindi and one Hinglish sample comment.

If you want full control, you can instead map different keywords to different messages, for example "PRICE" to an English message and "DAAM" to a Hindi one. Language matching is usually simpler because it does not depend on which word the person used.

Does this apply to public replies and follow nudges too?

The public comment reply uses the versions you write and rotates them, so write a mixed set like "Sent 💌", "DM bhej diya" and "Inbox check karo". The follow-gate nudges, up to three before the link, follow the DM language so the whole exchange stays consistent.

Replies that come back land in the Inbox with the original comment as context, so you can see which language the person used before you answer within the 24-hour window.

Which plan includes language-matched replies?

Replying in the commenter's language is part of Auto-DM and available on the Starter plan at ₹199 a month. The Pro plan at ₹1,199 a month adds AI replies in English, Hindi and Hinglish that can answer follow-up questions in the thread on their own, which is a different feature from the first automated reply.

Both run on the official Instagram API, and Viralyze never posts to your feed or sees your password.

What should I watch for after switching it on?

Open the per-automation funnel after the first reel and compare clicked against delivered. If Hinglish commenters click more than before, the register is landing. Then scan the Inbox for replies and read a few in each language to make sure the generated versions say what you meant.

Keep your base message free of idioms that only work in one language. "Grab it before it's gone" translates poorly; "Offer ends Sunday" translates cleanly.

Frequently asked questions

**What if a comment mixes Devanagari and English?** It is treated as Hindi or Hinglish depending on the balance, and the reply follows. Test a sample in the live tester to see the result.

**Can I turn language matching off and always reply in English?** Yes. Set the automation to a fixed language if your brand voice is English only.

**Does this work for story replies?** Yes. Story reply triggers use the same language detection as comment triggers.
