Per-Automation Funnel: Comments, Matched, Delivered, Clicked, Signed Up
A reel either "worked" or "didn't" until you can see where people dropped off. The per-automation funnel replaces that guess with five numbers in a row: comments, matched, delivered, clicked, signed up. Viralyze shows this funnel for each automation, and once you know how to read it, every underperforming reel tells you exactly which part to change.
This article walks through each stage, what a drop there usually means, and the fix.
What are the five stages of the funnel?
Comments is every comment on the post. Matched is the comments that contained one of your keywords. Delivered is the DMs that were actually sent. Clicked is the taps on the link inside the DM. Signed up is the people who completed the next step, such as entering an email on a lead magnet page, booking a slot or buying.
Each stage is a subset of the one before it, so the shape of the funnel shows where attention leaks.
What does a big drop from comments to matched mean?
People are commenting but not with your keyword. Either the call to action was unclear or they are using words you did not list.
Fixes: put the keyword in the first line of the caption and on screen, and add spelling variants and natural phrases as extra keywords. Matching already ignores case, typos and emojis, but "send it" will not match "GUIDE" unless you add it. The live tester lets you paste real comments from the post to check what would have matched.
Why would matched be higher than delivered?
A few reasons. The follow-gate holds the DM until the person follows, and some never do. Instagram allows one private reply per comment within 7 days, so a comment that is older than a week cannot receive one. Occasionally a person has restricted messages from businesses.
Fixes: if the gap is large, consider turning the follow-gate off for that post, or soften the nudge wording. Viralyze follows Meta's reply rules automatically, so the 7-day limit is not something you can change, only plan around.
What if delivered is high but clicked is low?
The DM is arriving but the message is not persuading people to tap. This is the most common weak stage.
Fixes: put the link in the first line, name what it leads to, and keep the message to three lines. Here is a before and after from a Hindi language tutor's "VOCAB" automation. Before: a six-line DM explaining her teaching philosophy with the link at the end, 18% clicked. After: "Here's the 100-word Hindi vocab sheet 📄 [link]. Reply with your level and I'll suggest where to start," and clicks roughly doubled on the next reel. AI variations keep the short version from looking identical across recipients.
What does a weak clicked-to-signed-up stage tell me?
The page after the link is losing people. The lead magnet form asks for too much, the booking menu is confusing, or the price on the checkout page surprised them.
Fixes: ask only for an email on lead magnet pages, keep the booking menu to a few clear services with add-ons, and mention the price in the DM so the checkout page confirms rather than reveals it.
How do I use the funnel week to week?
1. Open the automations list on Monday and look at last week's reels. 2. For each one, note the stage with the steepest drop. 3. Change one thing on the next reel to address that stage. 4. Compare the two funnels the following Monday.
Pair this with the home screen, where top reels by DMs over 7, 30 or 90 days shows which topics to repeat, and export contacts to CSV when you want to follow up with people who clicked but did not sign up.
Frequently asked questions
**Does the funnel work for story reply automations too?** Yes. For story triggers the first stage counts replies instead of comments, and the rest of the funnel is the same.
**Can I see the funnel for a paused automation?** Yes. Paused and completed automations keep their numbers, so you can compare an old launch with a new one.
**Is funnel analytics included in the Starter plan?** Yes. Analytics and contacts export are part of Starter at ₹199 a month, along with unlimited Auto-DMs.
