Live Keyword Tester: See Which Comments Trigger Before You Go Live

19 October 2026

The first ten minutes after a reel goes live are when most keyword comments arrive, and a broken keyword at that point costs you the whole wave. The live keyword tester in Viralyze removes the guesswork: before you turn an automation on, you type a comment and the app tells you whether it would fire and what DM would go out.

This article shows what to test, what the matching already handles, and the gaps the tester helps you catch.

What does the live tester do?

It takes a sample comment and runs it against the automation's keywords exactly as a real comment would be checked. The result shows whether it matched, which keyword matched, and a preview of the DM, including the AI-varied wording and any attached PDF, product or booking page.

It lives inside the setup screen, so you can test, edit keywords, and test again without leaving the automation.

What does keyword matching already handle without extra keywords?

Case, typos, emojis and Hinglish spellings. "GUIDE", "guide", "Guidee" and "guide 🙏" all match a keyword of GUIDE. "link bhejo" and "link bhej do" match a keyword set up for the Hinglish phrase.

What it does not do is guess intent. "Send it" will not match "GUIDE", and "how much?" will not match "PRICE". Those are the gaps the tester is for.

Which sample comments should I test?

Test the way your audience actually writes, not the way you wish they wrote. Scroll your last reel's comments and copy five real ones.

A short checklist:

1. The keyword alone, in lowercase. 2. The keyword inside a sentence: "can i get the guide please". 3. A natural alternative: "send me the guide", "guide chahiye". 4. A question that means the same thing: "where's the link?". 5. A comment that should not match, such as "love this" if your keyword is LOVE.

If any of the first four fail, add the phrase as an extra keyword. If the fifth one matches, your keyword is too common and needs changing.

How does the tester help with multiple keywords and replies?

When one automation maps different keywords to different DMs, the tester shows which reply a given comment would receive. Type "PRICE" and see the rate card; type "SLOT" and see the booking page.

A concrete example from a tabla teacher: his automation has "PRICE" sending a fee PDF and "DEMO" sending a booking page for a free 15-minute trial. Testing "price for demo?" showed it matched PRICE first, so he reordered and reworded the keywords so that anyone mentioning a demo gets the booking page, which was the outcome he wanted.

What about the follow-gate and public reply?

The tester previews the DM content. If the follow-gate is on, non-followers will receive the follow nudge first, up to three times, before the link, and the tester reminds you that the gate is active. The public reply is shown as one of the rotating versions you wrote.

Run the test once more after any edit. It takes seconds and the automation setup as a whole still takes about a minute.

Can I test an automation that is already live?

Yes. Open the automation, use the tester with a new phrase, and if it fails add the keyword. The change applies immediately to new comments. Instagram allows one private reply per comment within 7 days, and Viralyze follows that rule, so adding a keyword does not resend DMs to people who already received one.
