Keyword Naming Mistakes: Words That Get Mistyped or Misread

19 October 2026

Most keyword problems are naming problems. The automation works; the word was wrong. People mistype it, or they type it in a comment that was never a request, or two of your keywords look alike and the wrong DM goes out. Short nouns, a few added variants, and a minute with the live tester in Viralyze fix nearly all of it. Here are the mistakes we see most and the swap for each.

Which words get mistyped most often?

Anything with a double letter, a silent letter or an unusual vowel order. On a phone keyboard, with autocorrect switched off in many Indian language keyboards, these fail quietly:

  • RECEIVE (recieve), SCHEDULE (shedule), DEFINITELY (definately)
  • BROCHURE (brouchure), ITINERARY (itenary), QUESTIONNAIRE
  • SUBSCRIBE (subcribe), CERTIFICATE (certficate)

Viralyze tolerates typos, which saves many of these, but a word that is hard to spell is also hard to remember after the reel ends. Swap for a short noun: GUIDE instead of BROCHURE, PLAN instead of ITINERARY, JOIN instead of SUBSCRIBE.

Words that appear in normal comments

The opposite mistake: a keyword so common it triggers on compliments. If your keyword is LOVE, "love this" sends a DM to someone who did not ask. The same goes for YES, WOW, NEED, WANT, FIRE, GOALS, SAME, THIS, and for dish names, sign names and exercise names on accounts that talk about those things. The fix is to choose a word that only shows up when someone is asking you for the deliverable: SHEET, SCRIPT, MENU, REPORT. Run the live tester with "I need this so bad" and confirm nothing fires.

Lookalike pairs in one account

If PLAN sends a free PDF and PLANS sends a paid checkout, the person who types "plans" gets a price when they wanted a freebie. Viralyze is not case-sensitive and handles spelling variations, which is helpful most of the time but means near-identical words should do the same thing. Rules:

1. Never run two keywords that differ by one letter unless they send the same DM. 2. Keep plurals as variants of the singular, inside the same automation. 3. Give paid and free offers visibly different words: NOTES versus CLASS, GUIDE versus JOIN.

Concrete example: a fitness coach's "FORM" and "FROM" problem

A coach ran FORM on a deadlift reel to send a technique checklist. The funnel showed healthy comments but a surprising number of "matched" that did not fit the reel. Checking the Inbox, many triggers came from comments like "from Delhi, love this" because the typo tolerance read FROM as FORM. She renamed the keyword to CHECKLIST, added "form checklist" and "form tips" as variants, and tested "greetings from Mumbai" in the live tester to confirm it no longer triggered. The next reel's funnel showed fewer matches but more clicks, which is the shape you want.

Emoji and symbol traps

An emoji-only keyword like 🔥 fails in two ways: people use it as a reaction constantly, and different phones render different emojis for the same name. Use an emoji only as an optional variant alongside a word, never as the sole trigger. Avoid keywords with punctuation ("LINK?" or "LINK!") since people drop punctuation; Viralyze matches the word anyway, so set the plain word.

Keywords that are too generic across reels

INFO, DETAILS, LINK and MORE work on a single reel but become ambiguous once you run "comments on any post". A viewer who comments LINK on a reel about your course and another who comments LINK on a reel about your ebook both get the same DM. Either run per-post automations with the same word, or use deliverable-specific words account-wide (COURSE, EBOOK, CALL) and reserve LINK for a reel you set up on its own.

Frequently asked questions

**My keyword is not triggering at all. What should I check first?** Confirm the automation shows Live, not Scheduled or Paused, that the post selected is the right one, and type the exact comment into the live tester to see whether it matches.

**Can I use Hindi script and English for the same keyword?** Yes, add "कीमत" and "PRICE" as keywords in one automation and both send the same DM.

**How many keywords should one automation have?** Three to five, the main word plus the common misspellings and Hinglish forms you see in your own comments.
