How to Track Revenue From Each Instagram Reel
Views tell you which reel was popular. Revenue tells you which reel was worth making again. To track money per reel you need one thing most creators skip: a separate trigger per video, so that each sale can be traced back to the comment that started it. The Viralyze app does the tracing for you through per-automation funnels and source-tagged contacts.
This is the setup, followed by how to read the numbers.
Why can't Instagram Insights show revenue per reel?
Because Insights stops at the tap. It can show you reach, saves and profile visits, but it has no idea whether the person who visited your bio bought anything.
A bio link shared across ten reels mixes every visitor together. The fix is to stop sending everyone to the same place and instead give each reel its own path to checkout.
How do I set up per-reel tracking?
Use one automation per reel, even when the product is the same.
1. Post the reel with a distinct keyword. A skincare brand might use GLOW on the serum reel and MASK on the clay mask reel. 2. In Viralyze, create an automation on that specific post with that keyword and attach the product checkout page. 3. Repeat for the next reel with a new keyword. Different keywords can also send different DMs. 4. Leave the automations Live; they do not interfere with each other.
Now every comment, DM, click and sign-up is stored against the reel it came from.
What does the per-automation funnel show?
Five numbers in order: comments, matched, delivered, clicked, signed up. Matched is lower than comments when people write unrelated things; delivered is lower than matched only if a DM could not be sent.
Clicked is the figure to watch. A reel with 400 comments and 60 clicks is converting worse than one with 120 comments and 55 clicks, even though the first looks busier. Signed up counts people who gave an email or completed a lead magnet, which is your warm list for later offers.
How do I connect clicks to actual money?
Through contacts. Each buyer, email lead or DM reply in Viralyze is a contact with a source tag, and the home screen shows revenue alongside DMs sent and link clicks for 7, 30 or 90 days.
Export contacts to CSV, filter by source, and you have a list of exactly who bought after commenting GLOW versus MASK. Over a month this tells you whether the serum reel paid ₹18,000 or ₹1,800, a figure no view count can give you.
Which reels should I post next?
The home screen ranks top reels by DMs, which is the fastest proxy for buying intent. Pair that with the funnel's click rate and a pattern usually appears within a few weeks: certain hooks, formats or price points pull paying customers while others only pull likes.
Make the next three reels in the format that won on revenue, not reach. If a reel shows strong comments but weak clicks, rewrite the DM before you give up on the topic.
Frequently asked questions
**Can I track a reel that uses "comments on any post" as the trigger?** You can, but all matching comments will share one funnel. For per-reel numbers, use the specific-post trigger.
**Does the tracking include story replies?** Yes. A story-reply trigger gets its own automation and funnel, so a story promotion can be compared with a reel promotion.
**Is there a limit to how many automations I can run?** No. Starter includes unlimited Auto-DMs and automations, so one per reel is fine.
