How to Send Different DMs for Different Keywords on the Same Post

19 October 2026

One Instagram post can carry several keywords, and each keyword can send a different DM. A viewer who comments PRICE gets your price list; a viewer who comments LINK gets a checkout page; a viewer who comments GUIDE gets a PDF. In the Viralyze app this is a single automation with multiple keywords, each mapped to its own reply, and it takes about a minute to set up.

This is useful because one reel rarely has one kind of viewer. Some are ready to buy, some want to learn, and some just want to know what it costs.

Why would one post need more than one keyword?

Because the people commenting want different things, and sending everyone the same link wastes the one private reply you are allowed per comment. A reel about a 30-day habit programme attracts buyers, browsers and people who simply want the free tracker.

Splitting by keyword lets you match the reply to the intent. It also makes your comment section easier to read, since each keyword tells you what the commenter was after.

How do I set this up?

In Viralyze, you build one automation on the post and add keywords with their own replies. The steps:

1. Pick the reel or post (or choose "any post" if the offer applies across your feed). 2. Add the first keyword, for example PRICE, and write its DM: a short price summary and your booking page. 3. Add a second keyword, LINK, and attach your product checkout page. 4. Add a third keyword, GUIDE, and paste your free PDF or long text; long messages become a downloadable PDF automatically. 5. Type each keyword into the live tester to confirm the right reply fires. 6. Turn it on, or schedule it to start with your next post.

Keywords are not case-sensitive, so "price", "Price" and "PRICE" all route the same way.

A worked example: a ceramics seller

Imagine a potter who posts a reel of a glazed mug set. She sets three keywords on that post:

  • MUG sends the checkout page for the set, with payment by UPI or card and no platform fee.
  • WORKSHOP sends her booking page for a weekend wheel class, with slot selection and upfront payment.
  • GLAZE sends a short PDF explaining her glaze process, and it collects an email first as a lead magnet.

Her caption reads: "Comment MUG to buy, WORKSHOP to join a class, or GLAZE for the recipe." Three intents, one reel, three different DMs.

Will people get confused by multiple keywords?

Not if the caption says what each one does. Keep it to two or three keywords per post; beyond that, the caption becomes a menu nobody reads.

Choose words that describe the outcome, not the action. "MUG" and "WORKSHOP" are clearer than "A" and "B". If someone types a keyword you did not list, nothing is sent, so it also helps to include obvious variants like "mugs" as an extra keyword.

Can I see which keyword performs better?

Yes. Each automation in Viralyze shows a funnel of comments, matched, delivered, clicked and signed up. When keywords on the same post send different links, the link click counts tell you which offer drew interest.

Many creators learn from this that the free item pulls the most comments while the paid item pulls the most clicks per comment. That is a signal about what to lead with in the next reel.

Frequently asked questions

**Can two keywords send the same DM?** Yes. Add both keywords to the same reply when they mean the same thing, for example LINK and LINKS.

**Does the public comment reply change per keyword?** You can write replies like "Sent you a DM 💌" and the app rotates variations so the thread looks natural regardless of which keyword matched.

**What happens if a comment contains two keywords?** The automation sends one private reply per comment, as Instagram allows, so keep keywords distinct enough that comments rarely contain both.
