How to Reduce Checkout Drop-Off on Mobile

19 October 2026

Most Instagram buyers are on a phone, inside the Instagram app, with their thumb hovering over the back button. Checkout drop-off on mobile is rarely about price. It is about taps, typing and doubt. The Viralyze app removes most of the taps by sending the checkout page straight into the buyer's DM, and the rest of this article covers what you control on the page itself.

Work through these in order; the first two usually fix the most.

How many taps does it take to pay?

Count them properly. Reel to bio to link page to product to cart to login to address to payment can be eight or more screens, and every screen loses people.

With a comment keyword the path becomes: comment, open DM, tap link, pay. Viralyze generates a checkout page per product, so the link in the DM opens on the thing they wanted, not a storefront they must search.

Which payment method should come first?

UPI, if your buyers are in India. A UPI payment is approved with a fingerprint in the buyer's own banking app; a card needs sixteen digits, an expiry, a CVV and an OTP typed on a small keyboard.

Viralyze checkouts offer UPI, cards and net banking through an RBI-authorised aggregator. Mention "pay by UPI" in the DM itself so the buyer knows it will be quick before they tap.

Does the page ask for things it does not need?

Every extra field is a reason to leave. For a digital product you need a name, an email or phone for delivery, and payment. You do not need a password, a date of birth or a postal address.

A concrete illustration: a Pune-based illustrator selling a ₹349 Procreate brush pack cut her fields to email and payment only. Her DM reads "Brush pack is ₹349, pay by UPI, the download link arrives on this page and by email." Nothing else to fill in.

Is the delivery promise visible before payment?

If the buyer cannot see what happens after they pay, they hesitate. Write it on the product page in one line: "Instant download after payment" or "You will receive a Google Meet invite for your chosen slot".

For sessions, the Viralyze booking page already shows the confirmation step where the customer can add the event to their calendar, reschedule or cancel if you allow it. That visible safety net reduces the "what if I cannot make it" doubt that stops people from paying for appointments.

What should I do about people who clicked but did not pay?

Reply to them while the window is open. Every Auto-DM conversation lands in the Viralyze Inbox with the original comment as context, and Instagram gives you 24 hours from their last message to reply.

A short, human follow-up works: "Saw you grabbed the link, anything unclear about the pack?" Many non-buyers simply got interrupted. The per-automation funnel shows clicked versus signed up, so you can see how large this group is before deciding whether a follow-up is worth your time.

Frequently asked questions

**Does the checkout open inside the Instagram in-app browser?** Yes. The link opens in Instagram's browser, and UPI hands off to the buyer's payment app and returns them, which is why a single-page checkout matters.

**Can I offer a cheaper "lite" version to catch people put off by price?** Yes. Create a second product with its own checkout and mention it in the DM, for example "₹349 full pack or ₹149 starter set".

**Will a platform fee be added at checkout and surprise the buyer?** No. Viralyze charges 0% platform fee, so the price you set is the price the buyer sees.
