How to Offer a Free First Call and a Paid Follow-Up

19 October 2026

A free first call is how many coaches, consultants and therapists win clients: fifteen minutes to understand the problem, then a paid session to work on it. The mistake is running the two through different tools or, worse, through DMs. Viralyze puts both on one booking page, so the free call and the paid follow-up share your calendar, your reminders and your contacts list.

Should the first call really be free?

For most services where the fit matters, yes. A free call lowers the barrier to speaking with you, and a client who has talked to you for fifteen minutes is far more likely to pay for sixty.

Keep it short and keep it scoped. Fifteen or twenty minutes on a phone or WhatsApp call is enough to learn the problem and decide whether you can help. Save Google Meet and the longer slot for the paid session.

How do I set up both services on one booking page?

Create the free call and the paid session as separate services with different durations, prices and formats. In the Viralyze app:

1. Open Bookings and add "Intro call, 15 min, ₹0, WhatsApp call". 2. Add "Coaching session, 60 min, ₹2,500, Google Meet" with payment upfront switched on. 3. Connect Google Calendar and choose which calendars block slots. Add a buffer of 10 minutes after the intro call so you can make notes. 4. Set partial days off if you want free calls only in certain hours, for example "after 2 PM" on weekdays. 5. Set the cancellation rule for the paid session, such as free cancellation until 24 hours before. 6. Share the shre.pro link in your bio and attach it to an Auto-DM.

Both services appear on the same page, and the client picks the one they want.

How do I stop free calls from eating my week?

Limit when they can be booked, not whether. Partial days off let you open free calls only on, say, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons while the paid session stays open all week.

Buffers help too. A 15-minute call with a 10-minute buffer means at most two free calls an hour, which caps the damage from a reel that goes unexpectedly wide. If the volume still gets too high, pause the Auto-DM that sends the free call and let the paid session keep running.

What do I send at the end of the free call?

The paid session's booking link, within a few minutes, while the conversation is fresh. The client is already in your contacts list in Viralyze because they booked the intro call, so you have their details and the source reel.

A message that works for a career coach: "Great talking to you. Based on what you described, the 60-minute session is the right next step; we will rebuild your CV and plan the next two applications. Here is the link, pick any slot this week and the Meet link lands in your calendar."

A worked example for a relationship therapist

Dr Kavita's reel on managing in-law conflict ends with "Comment TALK for a free 15-minute call."

The Auto-DM sends her booking page with the free intro call. Her keywords are "TALK", "call", "baat" and "help". The intro calls are on WhatsApp call, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 to 6 PM. After each call she sends the paid session link, ₹2,000 for 50 minutes on Google Meet, with payment upfront.

The funnel for the reel shows comments, matched, delivered, clicked and signed up for the free call, and her revenue on the home screen shows how many became paid sessions.

Frequently asked questions

**Can I require payment for the first call but refund it if they continue?** Simpler to keep the intro at ₹0; if you want commitment, charge a small amount and treat it as a separate service with its own price.

**Will a free booking still create a calendar event and reminder?** Yes. A ₹0 service creates the Google Calendar event, invites the client and sends the WhatsApp reminder exactly like a paid one.

**Can a client book the paid session without the free call first?** Yes, both services are on the page. If you want to hide the paid session from new clients, send a different booking link or service by DM only after the call.
