How to Measure Instagram ROI as a Creator

19 October 2026

Views feel like a return but they do not pay rent. For a creator, Instagram ROI is simple: what did a reel bring back in leads and revenue, compared with what it cost in hours and ad money. You can measure this with four numbers, and the Viralyze home screen already shows three of them. The fourth, your time, you estimate once.

What counts as a return on Instagram?

Three things: money, contacts and followers, in that order. Revenue is the direct return. Contacts are future revenue, because an email or DM thread can be followed up. Followers are the weakest return because a follower is not a lead until they act.

Likes, saves and views are inputs to those three, not returns in themselves. Track them if you like, but never put them on the ROI line.

Which numbers should I pull each month?

From the Viralyze analytics, over the 30-day range:

  • DMs sent, which is how many people asked for something.
  • Link clicks, which is how many of them took the next step.
  • Revenue, through checkout pages and bookings.
  • New contacts, from the contacts list, with source tags.

Then write down two costs: hours you spent filming, editing and replying, and any boost spend.

How do I turn those into a single ROI figure?

Divide the return by the cost. Say a fitness trainer spent 20 hours and ₹3,000 on boosts in a month. The app shows ₹42,000 in revenue from a programme checkout and 310 new contacts.

Revenue per hour is ₹2,100. Cost per contact is roughly ₹10 in boost money plus a few minutes of time. If the trainer values an hour at ₹1,000, the month returned about twice its cost before counting the 310 contacts who have not bought yet.

Do the same calculation per reel using "top reels by DMs" and the per-automation funnel, and the winners become obvious.

Why does the per-automation funnel matter for ROI?

Because it shows where the return leaks. The funnel reads comments, matched, delivered, clicked, signed up. A reel with 500 comments and 20 clicks has an attention problem solved and a DM-copy problem unsolved; fixing the message is cheaper than making a new reel.

Compare two reels with the same comments. The one with the higher clicked-to-signed-up ratio is the format to repeat.

Does automating replies change the ROI maths?

Yes, on the cost side. Replying to 300 comments by hand is several hours a month; an Auto-DM does it in about a second each. That drops the hours in the denominator without touching the revenue in the numerator.

Viralyze's flat pricing matters here too. The Starter plan is ₹199 a month regardless of how many contacts you collect, so the tool cost stays fixed while the return grows. A per-contact pricing model would rise with your list and eat into the margin you are measuring.

What should I do with the result?

Make three decisions a month. Keep the reel formats with the highest revenue per hour. Cut boost spend on anything whose cost per contact is above your average order value divided by ten. Export the contacts to CSV and follow up with the people who clicked but did not buy, because that follow-up is almost free and raises next month's figure.

Frequently asked questions

**Can I measure ROI on bookings as well as products?** Yes. Bookings paid upfront through the booking page appear in revenue, and each booker is a contact with a source tag.

**How far back does the analytics go?** The home screen offers 7, 30 and 90-day ranges, which covers a monthly and a quarterly review.

**Do I need a spreadsheet?** Only for the time estimate. Everything else is on the home screen, and contacts export to CSV if you want to go deeper.
