How to DM Everyone Who Comments on Your Instagram Post

19 October 2026

You can DM everyone who comments on your Instagram post, as long as the message is sent through the official Instagram API as a private reply to each comment. Instagram allows one such reply per comment within 7 days of it being posted. Viralyze handles this for you and gives you the choice between messaging every commenter and messaging only those who type a keyword.

The question is not just whether you can, but whether you should. This article covers both.

Is it allowed to message every commenter?

Yes, within Meta's rules. A private reply to a comment is permitted from a Business or Creator account, one per comment, within 7 days. That covers every commenter on a post, not only the ones who used a keyword.

What is not allowed is scraping usernames and sending unsolicited messages from a tool that logs in with your password. Viralyze is a Meta Tech Provider, you log in on Meta's own screen, and nothing is ever posted to your feed.

Should you DM every comment or only keyword comments?

For most posts, only keyword comments. The person who typed "LINK" asked for something; the person who typed "so pretty" did not, and a sales DM in their inbox feels like an intrusion.

Messaging every commenter makes sense in narrow cases: a giveaway where every comment is an entry and you want to confirm it, or a Q&A post where you promised a personal reply to everyone. Even then, keep the message short and useful.

How do you set up a message for everyone who comments?

In Viralyze the setup is the same as any other automation, with one change at the keyword step:

1. Choose the post and the "comments on a specific post" trigger. 2. At the keyword step, add broad keywords that match what people naturally write, or set it to match any comment if the tool allows it for that post. 3. Write a DM that makes sense for anyone, not just buyers. 4. Test with a few sample comments, including ones with only emojis. 5. Go Live and set an auto-pause after a number of DMs if you want a cap.

A handmade jewellery seller running a giveaway might write: "Thanks for entering! Winners announced Sunday. Until then, here is 10% off anything in the shop" with a checkout link.

What happens when people reply?

Replies arrive in one Inbox with the original comment attached. If you have messaged two hundred people, that context matters: you can see at a glance that one person commented "size 7?" and another commented "entered".

Reply from the app or from Instagram within the 24-hour window. Every conversation becomes a contact you can export later.

How do you avoid annoying people?

Three habits help. Keep the DM to two or three lines. Use the AI variations so the hundredth message is not a clone of the first. And set an auto-pause after N DMs or a date, so a post that keeps getting comments months later does not keep triggering an expired offer.

If you only want to reward people who follow you, turn on the follow-gate. Non-followers are asked to follow first, with up to three polite nudges, and followers get the message straight away.

Frequently asked questions

**Will people who commented before I switched it on get the DM?** Comments within the past 7 days can still receive a private reply, so recent commenters are covered.

**Can I see how many of the DMs were opened or clicked?** Yes. The automation funnel shows delivered, clicked and signed-up counts, and the home screen totals DMs and link clicks over 7, 30 or 90 days.

**Does this work on reels as well as photo posts?** Yes. Reels, carousels and single posts all count as posts for the comment trigger.
