How to Block Days Off and Holidays in Your Booking Calendar

19 October 2026

Blocking days off in a booking calendar should take seconds, not a reminder to yourself to "turn off bookings before the trip". In Viralyze, you can mark single dates, date ranges and partial days as off, and you can also rely on all-day busy events in your connected Google Calendar. Either way, clients only see slots on days you are actually working. This article covers the three ways to block time and which to use when.

What are the three ways to block a day?

You can block a single date, a date range, or a partial day, and each suits a different situation.

  • Single date: a doctor's appointment, a wedding to attend, a one-off closure.
  • Date range: a holiday, Diwali week, a workshop you are attending for three days.
  • Partial day: "after 2 PM only" or "mornings only" on days you have another commitment.

All three sit in the Viralyze booking settings alongside buffers, and they apply across every service on your link, whether in person or online.

Does Google Calendar handle this automatically?

Partly, yes. Any busy event on a calendar you chose to block from will remove those times from your booking page, including all-day events. So if you already put "Goa trip" across five days in Google Calendar, those days disappear from the page without a separate setting.

The difference is intent. Google Calendar is good for events that happen anyway; days off in Viralyze are better for recurring closures and festivals you want set once and left alone. Many creators use both: holidays in the app, travel in the calendar.

How do you block a holiday week step by step?

Blocking a festival week takes a minute.

1. Open the booking settings in Viralyze. 2. Add a date range covering the holiday, for example the Monday to Sunday around Diwali. 3. If you work a half day before leaving, add a partial-day rule on that date such as "until 1 PM". 4. Open your own booking link and confirm no slots appear in the blocked range.

Existing bookings inside the range are not deleted by this setting, so check your calendar first and reschedule anything already booked; two-way sync will update the client's booking when you move the event.

What about weekly days off and clinic closures?

Set your regular working days in your availability, and use days off for the exceptions. A salon closed every Tuesday handles that in weekly availability; the extra Tuesday it closes for renovation is a single date block.

A concrete example: a nutritionist in Jaipur works Monday to Saturday, blocks Sundays in her weekly availability, and adds Holi and Diwali as date ranges at the start of each year. Her booking page stays accurate for twelve months without her touching it again.

Will clients be told you are away?

Clients simply see no slots on blocked days and pick the next available one. If you want to explain, add a line to your service description such as "Away 20 to 27 October; slots resume on the 28th".

For clients who already booked, the WhatsApp reminders and confirmation page keep them informed, and if you allow self-rescheduling they can move their session without messaging you. Viralyze keeps all of this consistent with your calendar.

Frequently asked questions

**Can I block a day off only for in-person sessions?** Use a partial-day rule or a busy event on the calendar that blocks in-person services; if both formats share the calendar, the day is blocked for both.

**Do blocked days affect my Auto-DMs?** No. Auto-DMs keep sending the booking link; clients just see your next free date when they open it.

**What if I forget to block a day?** Add an all-day busy event in Google Calendar from your phone; the booking page updates through the sync.
