Exporting Instagram Leads to CSV: Why Owning Your List Matters

What is in the CSV export?

Every contact in your list with the information collected about them: the Instagram handle where the contact came from a comment or story reply, the email where they entered one on a lead magnet page, and the booking details where they booked.

Each row carries a source tag, so you can see that one person came from the "RECIPE" automation on a September reel and another from the booking page on your bio. Contacts are deduplicated, so a person who triggered three automations is one row with three sources.

Why does owning the list matter?

Because platforms change. Reach drops, accounts get locked, features get removed, and a creator with 50,000 followers and no list starts from zero. A creator with 5,000 emails and handles in a file starts from 5,000.

Owning the list also lets you follow up outside Instagram's messaging window. A person who replied to your DM eight days ago cannot be messaged on Instagram until they write again, but if they left an email on your lead magnet page you can write to them today.

How do I export the list?

1. Open contacts in the Viralyze app. 2. Apply a filter if you want a subset, for example one automation's source tag. 3. Tap export to CSV. 4. Open the file in a spreadsheet, or import it into your email tool.

• Build a simple spreadsheet view of which sources produced buyers, by matching the source tag against bookings and purchases.
• Keep a dated backup, so if anything happens to your account you still have your audience.

A concrete example from a wedding photographer: she exported contacts tagged "ALBUM" from a reel about album design, filtered to the 60 people who had also booked a consultation, and sent them a short email with her album price list before the season. Nobody on that list had to comment again or wait for a reel.

Is exporting personal data allowed?

You are the data fiduciary for your audience's data under India's DPDP Act, and Viralyze acts as the processor. It does not sell personal data. That means the responsibility for using the export sensibly is yours: email people about things related to why they gave you their details, and honour unsubscribe requests.

Everything in the contacts list was collected through the official Instagram API or through pages people chose to fill in. There is no scraping involved.

Can I import the CSV somewhere useful?

Yes. A CSV opens in any spreadsheet and imports into common email and CRM tools. Use the source tag column to create segments, for example "all contacts from booking pages" or "all emails from the October lead magnet".

**Does the export include people who only tapped a link?** Link taps are counted per smart link. A person becomes a contact when they comment, reply, enter an email or book, so the export contains people with an identifiable action.

**Can I export contacts from a single automation only?** Yes. Filter by that automation's source tag before exporting.

**Will the CSV update itself after I download it?** No. It is a snapshot. Export again when you want the latest list.
